Monmouth-Galesburg commute is focal point of MC art exhibit

From Here to There
MONMOUTH, Ill. — “From Here to There,” an installation by Monmouth College associate professor of art Stacy Lotz, is on display through Sept. 25 in the college’s Len G. Everett Gallery in Hewes Library.
A gallery talk by the artist will be held Sept. 18 at 4:15 p.m. A reception for Lotz will follow on Sept. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit, gallery talk and reception are free and open to the public.
Lotz said the “here” and “there” in the installation’s title represent Monmouth and Galesburg.
“Viewers will find themselves standing with two large round bales looking at a distant pasture with grazing cattle,” she said. “At its most basic level, the installation is a visual record of my commute from Galesburg to Monmouth and the trip back. But, conceptually, there’s so much more to it.”
Lotz joined the Monmouth College faculty in 1995. She started her studies in higher education at Carl Sandburg College before receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1987 and 1988. Three years later, she received a master in fine arts degree in sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis.
The Everett Gallery is open during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday,
8 a.m. to midnight; Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to midnight.
