The Fighting Scots 2009
Baseball Team

Hinkle named Pitcher of the Week, again
June 1, 2009
An award from
a national coaches organization capped a stellar season for Monmouth
College senior Matt Bourne (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic).
Bourne, a
left-handed pitcher, was named to the American Baseball Coaches
Association All-Central Region Third Team. He posted a 6-2 record
with a 3.34 ERA – both career bests – and led the team with five
complete games and 64.2 innings pitched. His 39 strikeouts, 10
appearances and opponent’s .249 batting average were all second on
the Fighting Scots’ staff. The southpaw also earned his first
All-Midwest Conference selection on the heels of the Scots’ eighth
South Division title in nine years.
The ABCA was
formed in 1945 and was instrumental in the creation of the College
World Series. With more than 6,000 members, the ABCA has annually
named all-region and All-American teams since 1950.

AND COACH OF THE YEAR |
Hinkle named Pitcher of the Week, again
May 14, 2009
A flurry at the finish by the Monmouth College baseball team
earned the Fighting Scots two of the Midwest Conference’s top
awards.
Head coach Roger Sander earned his league-record ninth
South Division Coach of the Year award and Robbie Hinkle
(Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) was named the division’s Pitcher of the
Year. The Scots won their 31st division crown this season after
downing Grinnell in a one-game playoff to break a regular
season-ending tie. Sander has compiled a 288-246-1 mark in 16 years
at the helm.
Hinkle, a sophomore right-hander, compiled a 5-1 record after
pitching just 3.1 innings as a freshman. He threw three complete
game shutouts and recorded a team-best 2.89 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
Hinkle held opponents to a .230 batting average and set the Monmouth
consecutive scoreless innings record, tossing 31.1 straight innings
without allowing a run.
Seven other Scots joined Hinkle on the
All-Midwest Conference team. Senior Matt Bourne (Bloomington,
Ill./Central Catholic), sophomore Billy Herrin (Galesburg,
Ill./Galesburg) and freshmen Chad Kamm (Metamora,
Ill./Metamora) and Caleb Ruyle (Jacksonville, Ill./Routt)
were named to the first team. Senior Kevin Sashko (Mundelein,
Ill./Mundelein), junior Tom Shaver (Mundelein,
Ill./Mundelein) and freshman Terry Davis (Bloomington,

Hinkle named Pitcher of the Week, again
April 20, 2009
A fast
start to the conference season has earned Monmouth College’s Robbie
Hinkle (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) his second Midwest Conference
Pitcher of the Week award in as many weeks.
Hinkle threw his
third consecutive conference complete-game shutout in a 7-0 blanking
of Knox College Saturday to keep Fighting Scots atop the South
Division with a 6-0 record. The right-hander struck out eight and
scattered just three hits with two walks to improve to 4-0 on the
season. Opposing batters hit just .103 against him as he didn’t
allow a runner past second.
Hinkle has lowered
his ERA to a team-best 2.47. He has held opponents to a minuscule
.187 batting average through six appearances.
Hinkle named Pitcher of the Week
April 13, 2009

action on the mound has agreed with Monmouth College’s Robbie Hinkle

Pitcher of the Week.
Hinkle threw his second
complete-game shutout in seven days with a 2-0 win over Illinois College
to keep the Fighting Scots atop the South Division with a 4-0 record.
The sophomore hurler
fanned a career-high nine batters, walked one and scattered five hits
with his second win – both shutouts – over the Blueboys in the span of a
week. Hinkle didn’t allow a runner past second and allowed only two base
runners over the last four innings.
