 MWC PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Barnard wins conference honor
September 22, 2009Image of Lynsey Barnard

Senior golfer Lynsey Barnard (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) had the best 36 holes of her season last weekend and was named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week for women’s golf.

Playing in the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic, Barnard finished tied for 14th in the field of 62. Playing on two different courses didn’t adversely affect the Fighting Scots’ top golfer. Saturday on the Glynns Creek Course in Parkview, Iowa, Barnard fired a season-low 86. On Sunday’s final round at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa, she checked in with an 88 for a season-low 36-hole 174 total as the Scots carded a season-best 377-384-761.

 NATIONAL HONOR

MC’s Barnard named All-American Scholar
July

Lynsey Barnard (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) is in an elite group of NCAA Division III women’s golfers recently honored by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).

Barnard was one of less than 70 Division III women golfers nationwide to be named to the All-American Scholar team. More than 400 student-athletes were named to the teams in all NCAA divisions. In order to be named an All-American Scholar, Division II and III athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of their team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds. All golfers, regardless of division, must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Barnard was the only female golfer in the Midwest Conference to receive the distinction. A biopsychology major, the senior-to-be has a career stroke average just under 93. Last season, she tied the school record for 18 holes, firing an 80 at both the Knox Invitational and the Millikin Fall Classic.

Founded in 1983, the NGCA is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. Nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. are currently represented by the organization.

 FIGHTING SCOTS TEAM INFORMATION

TEAM HISTORY
The Fighting Scots got off to a fast start, winning a conference title in just their fourth year of existance. Monmouth built on back-to-back runnerup finishes in 2000 and 2001 to take the league crown by nine strokes in 2002. Molly McNamara, Amy Rassman and Nicole Auclair earned All-Conference honors.

Rassman picked up her fourth All-MWC honor in 2003. Auclair and Liz Gard joined the senior on the All-Conference team, making it the fourth straight year the Scots had three players named All-Conference.

HOME COURSE
Monmouth plays its home matches on the demanding, 5,814-yard, par-75 Gibson Woods Golf Course. The course is aptly named with rolling fairways guarded by old-growth trees and strategically-placed bunkers. The course is the home to the Monmouth-Roseville High School boys' golf team which has produced eight state team titles and six individual state champs.
