Within two business days after the fair, return the
evaluation form and inquiry cards in the business reply envelope.
Please return any leftover material and send us
the receipt so you can be reimbursed for your postal expense.
Perspective students and their parents
will look to you as a source of information about Monmouth College. They may ask
questions about availability of academic majors, educational costs, and
student life.
We strongly encourage you to read through
the admission brochures before the college fair to familiarize yourself
with our educational programs. If, while looking through the brochures,
you come across something that is not clear, please call the office before
the fair. One of the admissions representatives would be more than happy
to go through the information with you.
The following is a checklist of helpful
hints for a successful college fair:
Arrive early
You should arrive at the college
fair thirty to forty minutes before the fair is to begin. It may take
awhile to get from your car to the place you are supposed to be.
Allow at least fifteen minutes for
setting up the Monmouth College table. There will always be those students
who arrive early to get a head start on their college search. If you feel
that you have some free time on your hands before the students begin
arriving, feel free to walk around, and say hello to the other
representatives. If you do the same fair/fairs every year, you will
probably see people that you recognize from past programs.
Dress
A professional look is always
best for a college fair. Remember that you may be the student's first
impression of Monmouth College. Wear your name tag, a friendly smile, and
have a good time.
Look approachable
In order to attract students, you
should stand at all times to make eye contact. If you are seated behind
the table; students will look right over your head, and walk right past
you. They will assume that you are not interested, and will be less
inclined to visit the Monmouth College table.
Always remain behind your table when
speaking with students and parents; standing in front of the Monmouth
College's table is not allowed. Smiling and making eye contact with
everyone is most important. You may see other representatives seated or
leaving their tables.
Chances are they are alumni who have not
had training, and do not realize the importance of encouraging students to
approach their table. Leaving your table unattended also sends a negative
message to perspective families.
Set an attractive table
You will receive a box of
materials and a business reply envelope at least two weeks prior to the
date of the fair. If you have not received your materials two weeks
before the fair, please call the Admission Office at (800) 747-2687.
Try to set up the table with an attractive layout of brochures.
Giving away brochures
The two-ply should be filled out
by all interested students. Other brochures dealing with campus visits,
general information, and financial aid, should be given out to all
students with an interest in Monmouth College. Viewbooks and applications should
be given out to the very interested student. Please explain to the other
students that the viewbook and application will come in the mail after the
two-ply is completed and turned in.
All students should complete an
inquiry card (two-ply)
Two-plies serve a number of
purposes. Its purposes aid in helping the Monmouth admission
representatives in putting each student on our mailing list. You will be
there to answer any questions students may have about the various
inquiries on the card; and you can, at the fair's conclusion, count how
many people you spoke with. Keep a
close eye on the two-ply (inquiry cards) and make sure that they get
mailed back to our office in the business reply envelope within two
business days after the fair.
"I do not know" is an acceptable
answer
If you do not know the answer to
a question, please do not try to improvise. You may wish to pick up
various brochures, and go through them to find a subject related to the
question asked. This is fine. If you cannot find what you need simply have
the student write his/her question on a two-ply card and explain that an
admission representative will be in touch with him/her soon. Encourage
students to call our office and give them a campus visit brochure. All
their questions can be answered through an interview and tour.
Try to meet the host/hostess counselor
Part of your networking for the
college should include introducing yourself to the counselor (s) of the
school (s) sponsoring the fair. They may stop by your table at some
time during the fair. If they do not, go out of your way to meet them
before leaving.
Always be positive when they ask you if
you thought it was a worthwhile experience- even if you only spoke to a
few students. It is important to thank them for the invitation and
the opportunity to meet with their students. If you have enough materials
left, give one of each to the counselor (s) and the school (s) for their
files, in case they may need it for future reference.
You make our program work
College fairs are a lot of fun.
They give you an opportunity to tell your own success story. We truly
appreciate your willingness to share your Monmouth College experience with
prospective students.
