FAQ.
What ACT/SAT scores are required for admission?
Monmouth College urges all students to apply. While important, test scores are not the "end all" of the process. While the average ACT is 23, the middle half of our recent entering classes have ranged between 21-26. Students may send us their results for more than one test, and their highest score will be recorded. Monmouth College also accepts SAT scores.

What high school courses should I take to apply to Monmouth College?

  • 4 years of English
  • 3 years of History/Social Studies
  • 3 years of College Prep Math (i.e., Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus)
  • 3 years of Laboratory Science (i.e., Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • 2 years of the same foreign language (Recommended)

What is most important in the application?
The student's high school record is the most important factor; however, no single element is ever viewed in isolation. Monmouth is looking for strong and consistent performance in school, on standardized tests, and in extracurricular activities.

Does Monmouth consider the difficulty of a school or of advanced courses?
Yes. Completing a rigorous curriculum or a very competitive school is impressive. Monmouth makes every attempt to evaluate such factors.

How important is an interview?
Interviews are important; they help students get a clear and comprehensive picture of the College. Since interviews are not required, a student's chances for admission are not jeopardized if he/she is unable to have one. You may find it interesting to know that students are more likely to attend Monmouth if he/she has visited.

How many freshman applications did Monmouth receive last year?
Typically, Monmouth receives nearly 2,000 applications, and we accept 70% of those that apply. The average entering class size is 440.

What kind of student enrolls at Monmouth?
The college has 1,350 students enrolled in the 2007-2008 academic year, representing 20 states and 13 foreign countries.

55 percent of students are female, 45 percent are male.

The mid-50 percent of composite ACT scores for incoming students ranges from 21 to 26.

Monmouth's minority student representation is 11%, and international students make up 2% of the student body and represent 13 foreign countries.

The student/faculty ratio is 14:1. Average class size is 18.5.

Students of all races and creeds are equally welcome.

If I decide to enroll, what is the deposit?
A $150.00 deposit will reserve your place in the class, and get your housing assignment processed. The deposit is refundable until May 1.

Is there an orientation program?
Yes. Deposited students will receive information on the orientation program. The student-run program provides an introduction to Monmouth College life. This orientation program is scheduled for the weekend. New students move in right before classes begin.
