President Ditzler
at the 2006 Honors Convocation. |
A longstanding
tradition at Monmouth College, Honors Convocation is held in conjunction
with Founders Day, which is usually observed on the Tuesday closest to
April 18, the actual date of the college's founding. Held in Dahl
Chapel, the convocation is attended by the faculty--who wear full
academic regalia—students, parents and special guests.
The ceremony traditionally begins with a bagpipe processional and a
rendition of the college hymn by the Monmouth Chorale. Following a
welcome by the president and remarks by the dean of the faculty,
scholarship donors and recipients are recognized, as are new inductees
into scholastic honorary societies. Students are then presented with
individual departmental prizes and awards.
A highlight of the program is the announcement of the freshman and
senior men and women of the year.
