Monmouth kicked off Black History
Month celebrations with a cultural identities group led by Tony
Franklin of Western Illinois University. A display in the Stockdale center showcased many African American personalities that have impacted this
community.
The main events of the month were
two free concerts that took place in the Kasch Performance Hall
in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
The Umoja Community Gospel and jazz artist Semenya McCord performed
on Feb. 16.
The other concert took place on
the Feb. 19. Senior Emmanuel Minter of Park Forest, Ill. had rap
and R&B on tap.
Students in the African American
community also did a great job on publicizing these campus
events as well as putting up educational fliers and table tents
to educate the college campus about famous African Americans.
