“Western Stoneware: The
molding of a company,” a documentary produced in 2007 by communications
lecturer Chris Goble and three of his students, has received national
recognition from the Broadcast Educator’s Association (BEA).
The organization will honor the documentary with its Award of Excellence
in the faculty documentary competition as part of the Festival of the
Media Arts during the BEA’s national convention in Las Vegas in April.
According to the organization, Award of Excellence winners feature
“superior quality work, parallel in idea to research accepted for
publication in a referred journal.”
“This means that our work is being recognized alongside the work of
faculty at larger institutions with documentary film programs,”
explained Goble. “This is a great accomplishment to get this kind of
recognition on a national stage.”
The documentary, which highlights the history of pottery in western
Illinois and the development of Monmouth-based Western Stoneware, was
created as a project for Goble’s Advanced Video Production class.
