Personal Reflections:
When I first came to Monmouth College, I was really not expecting it
to be very different from other colleges. I soon came to discover that it
was different, and in many good and important ways. I have been here over
6 years now, and still see new ways that Monmouth is different from other
schools.
Being a new member of a community can be hard. So I was a little surprised
at how quickly I felt like I belonged here. I was able to knit myself into
the community and now I cannot imagine not being a part of Monmouth
College. I think everyone here feels a personal stake in the Monmouth
College experience for our students and that shows in numerous ways - from
the time spent with students after class to discuss the finer points of a
topic to the maintenance of the campus to the quality of the food.
This is just one way I feel Monmouth is different. I get excited when I
see the young adults that come to visit Monmouth College. I see the
potential that exists in them; I see the promise they hold. I know it
sounds campy, but I look at them and see what a wonderful environment
Monmouth provides them with to find that promise. Just a few weeks ago, I
was talking with another counselor about how much fun it is to talk with
students and share in their excitement and anticipation about college.
What made this conversation especially rewarding for me? I had worked with
Russell Bold to get him to come to Monmouth College 5 years ago. Now, he
works in the admission office along with me. We both came to the agreement
that our tagline “What college is meant to be.” really fits, and that does
make Monmouth College different.
