How To Talk About the New Curriculum

FOUNDATION SKILLS

 

Communication Across the Curriculum (CAC)

  • CATA 101: Fundamentals of Communication

  • ENGL 110: Composition and Argument

  • Writing and speaking intensive courses in the major

Quantitative Reasoning Across the Curriculum (QAC)

  • Math 102: Required for some students

  • Quantitative skills developed in relation to the major

INTEGRATED STUDIES

 

Four course sequence with intentional points of integration between courses

  • Introduction to the Liberal Arts (INTG 101) – taken in the fall semester of the first year.

  • Global Perspectives (INTG 2XX) – taken during the sophomore year.

  • Reflections (INTG 3XX) – taken during the junior year

  • Citizenship:  Responsible Action (INTG 4XX) – taken during the senior year

AREA STUDIES

 

Foreign Language

Requirement:  demonstration of competency at the 102 level (one year of college-level language study).  Usually taken during the first or second year.

The Arts

  • One three-hour course in “Appreciation”

  • Two credits in “Participation” (ideally before the end of the junior year)

The Sciences

  • Two courses in “Physical Sciences”

  • Two courses in “Life Sciences”

Human Societies

One course from a short menu of designated courses.
