While tradition is a big
part of Homecoming at Monmouth, the college is always looking for new
ways to make the weekend even more special and enjoyable.
During Homecoming this
year, scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 17-19, the classes of 1968,
1983, and 1998 will celebrate traditional 40th, 25th, and 10th
anniversary reunions.
In addition, the college
will introduce a new format of “cluster” reunions for some classes. The
classes of 1977, 1978 and 1979 will join together to celebrate their
30th cluster reunion, and the classes of 2002, 2003 and 2004 will
celebrate their five-year cluster reunion.
“Because alumni usually
have college friends that were not in their class – some friends were
older and some were younger – cluster reunions will allow them to
reconnect with more of their friends from other classes,” said Lucy
Kellogg Thompson ’99, director of alumni programs. She said cluster
reunions will now be a regular part of the college’s alumni events
schedule, as well as traditional reunions for classes celebrating their
10th, 25th, 40th and 50th anniversaries.
Thompson explained that
another change being made is that all reunions up through the 40th will
be celebrated in the fall at Homecoming. Classes observing their 45th,
50th and higher reunions will celebrate during Alumni Weekend on campus
in the late spring each year.

Other Homecoming 2008
plans include the second annual President’s Homecoming Gala on Friday
night, featuring an elegant reception and dinner, student entertainment,
alumni recognition awards and presentations about developments and
progress at the college.
Traditional Saturday
events include the M Club Hall of Fame induction and the parade down
Broadway. This year’s M Club Hall of Fame inductees are John Warfield
’89, John Jacobs ’94, Dan Schisler ’94 and Heather Furrow ’98. An alumni pregame cookout will be held on the lawn of Quinby House, the college president’s home. The
Fighting Scots football game against Ripon in the newly-renovated April
Zorn Memorial Stadium will kick off at 1 p.m. The day’s busy slate of
activities will conclude with the traditional Homecoming concert in the
evening, class and cluster reunion parties, and an alumni mixer.
