Seven Monmouth College
athletes earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Outdoor
Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis.
That magnificent seven included senior Jonny Henkins (Kewanee,
Ill./Kewanee), who won the national championship in the pole vault by
clearing 16’7-1/4. That made him the Fighting Scots’ first two-time
national champ, the fifth track and field champion in the past four
years and the seventh in school history.
Classmate Peter Sprecher (Canton, Ill./Canton), who was last year’s
outdoor champion, placed sixth with a height of 15’5-1/2. Staying with
the pole vault, Jessica White (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) tied for third
in the women’s competition while tying her own school record (12’6-1/4).
Also finishing in the top eight to earn All-American honors were junior
Luke Reschke (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo) in the 400-meter dash, who placed
third in 47.63; junior Shannon Turczyn (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru), who
placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.24 after breaking the school
record in her qualifying heat (14.18); senior Zach Wilson (Lacon,
Ill./Midland), who placed sixth in the hammer throw with a heave of
179’10; and senior Megan Clennon (Aurora, Ill./West), who tied for
eighth in the high jump, clearing (5’4-1/2).
Monmouth’s men placed 10th in the team competition with 22 points. The
Scots’ women scored 10 points to tie for 25th.
