Mary Stahl '87 |
Mary Stahl, a 1987 Monmouth
College graduate, has been hired as a senior development
officer for the college. Stahl, who began her duties on
Jan. 28, was most recently the director of development
for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Peoria. Bryn
Lawrence, a 2007 graduate of Augustana College, has been
hired as the college's new coordinator of Web services.
He began his position on Feb. 4. Lawrence's most recent
experience with the Web has come with the Internet startup
business, ObservNation. He has also done Web-related work
for a Quad Cities-based singer, the
Quad City Chamber of Commerce and the Quad Cities Passenger
Rail Initiative. The Moline resident has also worked for
WVIK radio, the Quad City Times and the Moline Dispatch/Rock
Island Argus.
MC has new fraternity:
Four national fraternities, each
of which once had active chapters at Monmouth College,
visited campus during the fall semester to make presentations
to 18 students interested in forming a new Greek organization
on campus. In December, the students reached a formal
decision, and Phi Delta Theta will become Monmouth's fourth
active fraternity next spring. The chapter, which previously
existed at Monmouth from 1871 to 1884, will be officially
re-colonized in March.
Hall to be named for Gracie:
William Goldsborough '65,
and his wife, Beverly, have made a gift of $2 million
to the college to name its newest residence hall in honor
of MC musical legend Gracie Peterson. The gift to name
the hall was formally announced by President Mauri Ditzler
at the college's first-ever President's Homecoming Gala.

The $150,000 estate gift
that Monmouth College received earlier this fall from
the late Harold and Muriel Conger has been used to name
the new home of MC's philosophy and religious studies
department. Called Weeks House, the building on the southeast
corner of campus at 1002 E. Broadway is named after emeritus
professor of religious studies Stafford Weeks.
Students travel to China, England:
A group of Monmouth
College students, led by faculty members Kristin Larson,
Ian Moschenross and Joan Wertz walked among the people
of China and looked out over the country from the historic
Great Wall on a one-week trip in early January. At the
same time, faculty members Nick Dobson and Brian and Stephanie
Baugh were in charge of 14 students in England. The group,
which featured art and classics majors, toured London's
museums and were also exposed to several Roman British
sites. |
