In the last issue of the
Alumni Pipeline, a call for information was put out in a story titled
“I’m 99 for a Moment.” Thanks to reader Wendell Shauman ’67, we learned
that Mildred McCoy Birdsell ’30 only has a few more moments to be 99.
She will turn 100 on Oct. 19. Wrote Shauman, “She taught at Warren (High
School) for years – Latin, I believe. She lived in Kirkwood (Ill.) until
this year when she moved to the Maryland area to be closer to her son,
Bruce Birdsell ’69. I have gone to church with Millie my entire life,
and we share the same birthday.”
Happy early birthday,
Mildred! And you, too, Wendell!
Also in the last issue,
there was a news brief on associate professor of political economy and
commerce Ken McMillan. He now holds an endowed professorship in his
department called the Frederick H. Pattee Chair, but he is not chair of
the department. That title remains in the hands of professor Michael
Connell.
