Did a Monmouth College professor
or instructor have a major impact on your life?
Jerry Hatch ’57
generously funds three annual faculty awards at Monmouth College.
One of them – the Hatch Award for Distinguished Teaching – provides
recognition to a current faculty member for exemplary teaching and
making a real difference in the lives of their students. The
college will soon select the 2008 recipient, and alumni are
encouraged now to nominate a professor or instructor who had a major
impact on their experience at Monmouth and their future success.
The Hatch Award
for Distinguished Teaching recognizes faculty members for
outstanding classroom teaching, assistance to students outside of
class, mentoring, guiding students with individual projects, and/or
advising extracurricular activities. Recipients of the award are
uniquely able to engage students in their courses and build
relationships with them that go beyond the classroom. These faculty
members are role models and mentors, helping students achieve their
highest potential. Through interactions with these faculty members,
students gain a wider view of the world and a deeper sense of their
ability to contribute to society.
Past recipients
are Don Capener in 2005, Dick Johnston in 2006, and Stacy Cordery in
2007.
The deadline for
2008 award nominations is Sept. 22. The award will be presented
during the President’s Homecoming Gala on Oct. 17.
