Happy
2008, Class of ’73!
Here it is only 35
years since we graduated. Can you believe it’s been that long?? It
must be less! Just thirty-five years ago about now we were worried
about what our lives would be like after graduation. Some were heading
to grad school, some were going to shape another generation of young
minds, some were thinking about wedding gowns and honeymoons--but how
many of you thought you would be where you are today? Our generation
changed the world and we changed with it.
Many of you probably
live close enough to Monmouth to get back every now and again. If you
haven’t been there in a while I strongly encourage a trip back sometime
soon. The campus is absolutely beautiful—new dorms, terrific
renovations to old buildings, and fabulous athletic facilities. If you
go into the new Huff Athletic Center you’ll actually still see the
façade of the old athletic building as an entrance into the workout
gym. No more does the choir have to sing over the sounds of the
bagpipers—the chapel is now a great place for all of the musicians. And
after many years of diminishing enrollment, the student body is now very
close to the size it was when we were there. A thriving educational
community is once again the heart of Monmouth, Illinois.
So here’s some news
class members have sent to me:
Bill Maakestad
and his wife, Jean, live in Macomb. He has recently published his
second book on corporate and white collar crime called Corporate
Crime Under Attack: The Fight to Criminalize Corporate Violence.
Bill Ellison
and his wife, Dawn, live in Kansas City, MO where he is an attorney at
Michaels and May, P.C.
Robb Svendsen
and Debbie Swanson Svendson live in Hinsdale where Robb is the
Chairman/CEO of Chase Products, Co. They have 4 grandchildren—Tommy (3
½), Cayla (3), Molly (6 months), and Alice (4 months).
Marcie Tallman Ince and her
husband, Ray, live in San Antonio, TX. Marcie has been elected
President of the San Antonio Conservation Society, a 2,500+ member
organization formed for the purpose of preserving and encouraging the
preservation of historic buildings, objects, and customs relating to the
history of Texas. She has been a member of the organization for 28
years.
