Monmouth College

Marion  Morrison Named First Professor of Mathematics
Release Date:  April 1, 1856

Marion MorrisonMonmouth's esteemed new professor of mathematics and natural philosophy, The Rev. Marion Morrison, was born in Ohio in 1921 and attended Miami University, where he roomed with MC President David Wallace.

As students, Morrison and Wallace devised a grand vision to emigrate to the plains of Texas and there establish a new Christian college. God's plans, however, often interfere with the plans of men, and the two instead found themselves working shoulder-to-shoulder on the prairie of Illinois.

The Rev. Morrison has also worked tirelessly for the college outside of the classroom, raising funds and recruiting students. Recently, when the roads were impassable due to heavy rains, he walked thirty miles through mud and water in order to keep an engagement that was important to the college.
