Osios Lukas Church

This site was a departure from the classic-era works we'd been seeing. Osios Lukas church was built in the 11th century and features Byzantine architecture. It was one of the first examples of Greek architecture moving away from the Basilica-style. The church features groin vaulting, allowing multiple domes to be joined together, and an octagonal cross shaped basilica. The narthex is the porch-like first part of the church. The naos is the main part, and in the back is the alter and apse, featuring images of Jesus Crucified and Mary with baby Jesus.
