C Course Plan

Distinguishing Trait:
Authentic, Integrated Courses

As the new curriculum develops, instances of authentic and integrated communication activities continue to emerge. In the Integrated Studies courses as well as the majors, the campus has shown an interest in and willingness for using communication throughout the curriculum. This openness to CAC-related goals offers us the opportunity to revise the Communication-Rich Course Plan introduced to the faculty last spring.

In particular, to complement the current state of the emerging curriculum, the “C” designation (and requirement that each department identify one or two C courses) will be dropped.

If the C course designations are dropped, the revised C Plan will still maintain its primary emphases of spreading communication activities throughout the entire curriculum and integrating communication naturally into courses.

Additionally, removing the “C” designation from catalog descriptions of the courses allows Monmouth College to develop a curriculum in which communication is purposeful, necessary, and integrated (and avoids communication activities being dismissed as extra, unnecessary, or a mere catalog requirement).
