C Course Plan

Why
A C Plan at Monmouth College?
Effective
training in communication is ongoing:
 |
No single course
in writing or speaking, regardless of rigor, can teach students all
they need to know about communication. While courses such as ENGL
110 and CATA 101 can provide students with a foundation,
communication skills must be practiced, enhanced, and updated
throughout the curriculum, in general education as well as in the
majors. |
Communicating
information helps you learn more effectively:
 |
Presenting ideas
through writing and speaking helps students to engage with course
content and to analyze and synthesize ideas. Experience and
research shows that active learning, through writing and speaking,
increases acquisition, comprehension, and retention of course
materials. |
Communication—formal and informal—is varied and complex and must be
adapted to differing audiences and contexts:
 |
Basic writing
and speaking skills are no longer sufficient in today’s
technological age. Students must understand the complexities of
written and spoken communication and be ready to articulate
arguments, plans, and responses in a variety of contexts and through
various mediums.
