This week marked the seventh anniversary of Monmouth College’s “Mentoring Week,” when students were able to meet with their advisors to discuss future plans beyond college.

The chair of “Mentoring Week,” Dr. Marjorie Bond, associate professor of mathematics and computer sciences, stated, “Mentoring Week is an opportunity for advisors and advisees to get together to talk about things other than registration; such as goals, life after MC, and internships.”

At this time, departments are also able to meet with the students in their majors to discuss what opportunities their major can offer them.

Continuing the process of “Mentoring Week“ throughout the year, there will be a similar week, called “Majors Fair” in the spring.

“Majors Fair” will be a time for freshman and sophomores to talk with the different professors from various departments to gather information, in order to help them decide on a major.

Bond has taken the position of the chair of “Mentoring Week” twice:  once at the start of “Mentoring Week“ 1998 until 2000 and then again in 2004 to present.

As an incentive, if a student’s advisor signs the postcard, which was placed in campus mailboxes, and return it to Bond by Friday, Nov. 4, they have a chance to win flex dollars.
