Junior Latin and history major, Lisa Adams, received a very prestigious award on the weekend of Oct. 21.

The Carole Ann Award for college foreign language and teaching majors was represented to Adams at the Marriott Hickory Ridge Conference Center in Lisle, IL with the banquet beginning at 6 p.m. and the actual ceremony starting at 7 p.m.

Adams found out about this award from her advisor Tom Sienkewicz, Minnie Billings Capron Professor of Classics.

For her application, Adams had to submit a biographical sketch of herself, reasons why she wanted to teach a language and reasons why it would be important to attend the ICTFL Fall Conference, which the scholarship would pay for in order for the winners to attend the ICTFL conference.

Coming into her freshman year, Adams knew she had to take a foreign language and had always been interested in taking Latin.        Adams commented, “After awhile I just fell in love with it.”

The Ryan Award was established in 1987 and given out once a year by the Illinois Council where the winners receive a one-year membership in ICTFL and a certificate.

Adams’ future plans are to graduate from MC and find a teaching job.
