Greek organizations were founded on their service to others and this year the Greeks at Monmouth have been in full force. The past few weeks the Greek Organizations have been showing just how much they care about the community by hosting numerous events benefiting local philanthropies.
On saturday, Oct. 8, the Alpha Xi Delta sorority held a Big Band Dance philanthropy event at the local chapter of the American Legion.
This event was to benefit Camp Kidz, a camp for developmentally disabled children that is run by the Warren County Achievement Center.
The ladies sold tickets to the event as well as 50/50 raffle tickets for the event raising $400 for Camp Kidz.
The event was an overall success with music provided by the MC Jazz Band, snack foods donated by the college cafeteria and the American Legion allowing the ladies to use the space at no cost.
While the ladies of Alpha Xi Delta were dancing for charity the ladies of Pi Beta Phi and the gentlemen of Sigma Phi Epsilon auctioned themselves off in order to benefit a number of organizations around the area.
At the end of the night the two organizations were shocked to find out that they rose over $750 for charity.
Out of the money, $200 went towards a guest author for the Galesburg Public Schools, this money went to help pay for his stay while in Galesburg.
Another $275 went to the local chapter of Head Start in order to purchase Christmas presents, there was also $140 donated to both the Warren County United Way and Western Illi-nois Animal Shelter.
Along with these activities there are many other philanthropy events planned throu-ghout the rest of the semester.
