The Student Senate (S.S.) has always been an important organization at Monmouth College. For this reason, S.S. members felt it would be a good idea to give the organization a new and improved makeover.
This makeover included changing its name to The Associated Students of Monmouth College (A.S.M.C.)and updating their constitution.
Brandy Miller, president of the newly named organization, felt it was about time to make some changes to the Student Senate.
“The name Student Senate is like a glorified high school government. We are a lot more then that; we are a treasury that represents the school,” said Miller. Because of the name change, Miller, along with the rest of the association, felt that A.S.M.C. sounded more prominent then S.S.
Miller also stated, “The name is now more centered on the welcoming of our students, which is what our organization is all about.”
A.S.M.C. has also been hard at work for two years in updating their constitution.
“It was so out of date and very unclear,” stated Miller. After getting the okay by the faculty and of the members, the executive board went to work in bisecting the constitution by checking for errors, changing information, and updating it to the satisfactory of the Associated Schools of the Midwest Conference.
“It is more professional and we like it,” she commented.
The next meeting for A.S.M.C. will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Highlander Room.
All are welcome to listen in on different topics and everyone is always free to voice their own opinion.
