Now Playing…

“Two for the Money”-Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey star in this sports betting spectacular that seems to be a familiar pastiche of “Wall Street” and “Boiler Room.” But any movie with Pacino barking up a storm can’t be all bad, can it?

“In Her Shoes”-Curtis Hanson tackles the chick flick genre after helming such diverse projects as “8 Mile,” “Wonder Boys,” and “L.A. Confidential.” Hanson is proving himself to be a cinematic Renaissance man, but will Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine elevate the film above average?

“Waiting…”-…for Ryan Reynolds to stop making movies. Your “Van Wilder” schtick can only get you so far.

ON DVD

“The Interpreter”-Nicole Kidman, Sean Penn, and Catherine Keener star in Sydney Pollack’s best film in years (especially after the abysmal “Random Hearts”). Not only is a taut, suspenseful thriller, it also is thought-provoking. And when’s the last time anyone has said that about a Hollywood film recently?

“The Fly: Collector’s Edition”-Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis star in David Cronenberg’s 1986 remake/masterpiece about a nerdy scientist who develops really gross eating habits.

“Carlito’s Way: Ultimate Edition”-The third time’s the charm for this DVD release of Brian DePalma’s gangster opus with Pacino as a gangster trying to go straight.

“The Amityville Horror”-Ryan Reynolds stars in last fall’s remake of the 1979 horror hit, produced by Michael Bay. As Col. Kurtz from “Apocalypse Now” would say, “The Horror! The Horror!”
