This year Monmouth College added a new faculty member, Gadre Vasant.
Previously from New Dehli, India, Vasant has joined the Modern Foreign Language department, where he teaches Spanish 102 and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages.
He packed his bags and moved to the United States only a minor two weeks before his new job began.
So far, Vasant has been busy trying to get used to the teaching techniques, the people and the environment of MC.
He commented how it has been a change of pace coming here compared to what he was used to in his mother country of India.
Vasant is anxious to meet new people and interact with students at MC as he begins to adjust to his new lifestyle.
“My brother became a U.S. citizen, so I started to look for a job here. I searched the web and came across Monmouth College. They had an opening and I interviewed for the position in March,” stated Vasant.
He received his education at the University of Delhi with a M.A. in English, then he traveled to Madrid where he received his M.A. in Spanish and doctorate.
Vasant has over 30 years of teaching experience in India and was last teaching at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Vasant remarked he was somewhat intimidated by the big cities around here.
“I liked Monmouth College because it was a slow-paced and warming environment. However, I was slightly worried with people’s reaction in having someone coming abroad and teaching a different language.”
As a result, he has had no problems making new friends and conversing amongst his colleagues.
In his spare time, Vasant enjoys playing tennis, keeping in touch with his wife, who will be joining him in Monmouth in January, and his two other sons who are attending college elsewhere.
He has also spent much ofhis time traveling in every continent for business.
However, Vasant has not had the chance to really explore around Monmouth, but hopes to once he gets settled in his routine.
So far, he has been very pleased with Monmouth College and said, “It has been taking time for me to get used to the frequent use of electronics here, but I have been very impressed with the friendly and respectful students, along with the sites of the beautiful campus.”
