Volleyball looks to strike back at MWC
The women's volleyball team finally participated in their first conference match of the season, after playing 14 non-conference matches, against Lake Forest on Oct. 4. The Scots made the journey to Lake Forest, in which traffic held them up, and got off to a slow, rocky start.
"I was worried coming off the bus. I knew we would be groggy, because we wouldn't get a complete warmup," said Coach Shimmin, "we got on the bus at 1:15pm and didn't even get off the bus till ten to six."
The women tried to shake off the drive in first match, but couldn't help but a little off as they lost their first game 30-23. The women switched sides of the net and Coach Kari Shimmin gave her girls a little pep talk. Read More...
Scots cut down the Foresters
The Fighting Scots traveled to Farwell Field to take on the Lake Forest Foresters on Saturday, Oct. 1. The fifth game of the Scots season proved to be the easiest; although the game did not start off that way. In the end, the Scots brought home a victory, crushing the Foresters 34-0.
Coming into the game, Lake Forest had a decent 3-1 record and were looking to upset the leaders of the Midwest Conference. The Fighting Scots defense was having none of it. For the first time in the young season, the Scots defense seemingly outplayed the very potent Scot offense. Read More...
Women stay even after tough weekend
On Friday, Sept. 31, the Monmouth College women's soccer team departed for their games on Oct. 1 and 2. The bus ride was over six hours, but this did not stop the team from stomping Ripon 8-1 on Saturday, and playing a good Carroll team tough but eventually losing 2-0 on Sunday.
After the road trip, the Fighting Scots have an overall record of 5-5, and a conference record of 2-2. Although they have not been able to stay over .500, they are still in good shape to achieve their season' goal: to make the playoffs for the first time in school history. To accomplish this, the Scots will need to finish in the top four teams of the Midwest Conference. Read More...

Cross Country keeps on running
The women’s Cross Country team continued their season at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 1. As a team, the women finished 25 out of 27 teams.
The race was held on a tight course with a lot of curves along the Lake Michigan front. The 27 team field was compiled of a mixture of Division II and III teams as well as NAIA schools. Individually, Val Daves and Erin Mann were top finishers for the MC team. Both Daves and Mann were able to better their times of last years race on the same course.
