Monmouth College men's swimming is back in action for the second year in a row, since 1982. With returning five swimmers, this year's swim team is turning out to be quite promising. Compared to last year, the team has become much more versatile and has more to work with in regards to giving the team a name which will be distinguished in the Midwest Conference.
Led by Head Coach Keith Crawford, the Scots' swim team has grown over this past year introducing four new swimmers to Monmouth waters.
So far this season, the team has competed in three meets, in which they have performed well and "proved that they are a force to be reckoned with," stated sophomore Dan Campione, last year's fourth-leading freshman scorer and holder of several team records.
Some of the teams the Scots have competed against so far this season include University of Chicago, Lake Forest, Augustana, Western Illinois University and Rose-Hulman, just to name a few.
As
for the new members on the squad, all three freshmen and a junior
transfer student are showing that they could become an essential aspect
of the Scots men's swim team throughout their years here at
Monmouth. Those swimmers
include Erik Pavlacka, James Travnik, and Andrew Wilson, and Benjamin
Sauer.
In an interview with James Travnik he stated, "As a freshman, it's really exciting to be competing at the college level. I'm really looking forward to contributing to making Monmouth's name one that stands out from the rest. I think that this team has a lot of talent and potential and that we will prove this to other schools, throughout the season and in years to come."
This Saturday, Nov. 12, the Scots will be taking a road trip to Appleton, WI, to compete against Lawrence University, which placed second in the Midwest Conference last year.
