Women play tough at Wesleyan

Midwest Conference Tournament is up next

The Fighting Scots traveled to Illinois Wesleyan this past weekend Oct. 28 and 29. The Scots finished a noble 2-2 against very tough competition.     The women took on Illinois Wesleyan and Marantha Baptist on the 28 and then took on an undefeated Washington University and North Central on the 29.

The women took on a tough Illinois Wesleyan team on their home court in the first game of the Titan Tournament. The Scots played tough taking the Titans to five games, but losing in the fifth game: 30-25, 22-30, 16-30, 32-30, 15-7. "Man that was a close game that we should have won. It was real close. We played tough," said Coach Shimmin. Jessica Travis led the team in kills with 14 and right behind her was Kendra James with 10. Karissa Murray and Crystal Meyers shared defensive duties picking up 13 digs and a team high 20. Colleen Wilkin finished with 39 assists.   Read More...

Diving into the season

The Monmouth Fighting Scots’ swim team competed in their first home meet of the season. Incidentally, the Scots were also taking on their best competition of the year. They faced two Division-I schools on Saturday Oct. 29. These two schools were nearby Western Illinois University, and the University of Chicago. Playoff bound!!!

The Monmouth Fighting Scots have clinched their first playoff berth in the history of the college with a narrow win oover conference foe Carroll. The Scots shot out to a quick 28-7 lead in the first half.

However, they saw their lead shrink when Carroll scored twenty points in the second half.  On Saturday Oct. 29, the Scots walked off the field as the Midwest Conference champions after beating Carroll 35-27.  Read More...

The fight for the “Bronze Turkey” is the nation’s sixth longest rivalry in college football. For 117, years Knox and Monmouth have been clashing on the football field in attempts to win the “Bronze Turkey.” The game known, as the Turkey Bowl, is the most anticipated game on both the MC campus and Knox campus. Read More...

The Fighting Scots' Women's soccer team finished the season with 11 wins and six loses putting them at an overall 3rd place in the MWC standings.

The women's soccer team, coached by Barry McNamara, kept strong throughout the season and is soon headed for the playoffs. Read More...

Chicago ends 86-year drought

White Sox Sweep Astros

At 1:04 a.m. on Wed. Oct. 26, 2005, the Chicago White Sox utility infielder, Geoff Blum, hit a go-ahead homerun in the 14th inning of an epic baseball game.  Before the homerun, Blum’s last at bat was three weeks ago when the Sox played Boston in the ALDS. 

Many people were surprised by Blum’s heroics, but I was more surprised that my dorm room was not the only one that exploded with cheers after the walk off homerun. Read More...

Cross Country keeps on truckin’

This past Saturday, Oct. 29, the MC cross country team traveled to Oakland Acres Country Club, in Grinnell, IA to compete in the 2005 Midwest Conference Championships.  The men ran extremely well, coming in second place overall in the 8K race.
