Everybody loves Christmas--the decorations, the candy canes, the presents--and the Monmouth College music department is offering a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Organized by Professor Sarah Graham of the music department , the traditional Christmas at Monmouth concerts are free to the public and will be performed on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.

All three performances are identical, and the title of this year’s program  is “Gloria!”

Although Graham is a first year MC professor, she has been conducting choirs for over 10 years.

She teaches a number of courses at MC, including Music Education, Conducting and Voice Performance, in addition to being the director of choral events and vocal studies.

According to Graham, “Gloria!” will consist of a variety of music and readings to tell the story of Christmas.

Over 100 MC students will participate in the performances.

Featured groups will be the Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Choir, Men’s Chamber Choir and the Women’s Chamber Choir.

The narrator of the story will be the Rev. Kathleen Fannon. Along with U.A. Fanthrope, Fannon will also read some scriptures and poetry.

Graham said “Gloria!” will be open to the general public as well as students, but seating is limited, so people who plan to attend should arrive early.

Students are encouraged to attend and experience an uplifting, entertaining despite the upcoming finals week.
