Goodbye and Thank You Ken Morris

A fond farewell

I think it is fair to say that every student at Monmouth College knows Ken Morris ’00. Acting as the college’s assistant director of residence life and Founder’s Village hall director, everybody knows who Ken is and has dealt with him at some point in their college career, whether it was in regards to a housing situation or happenings over at the apartments. However, I venture to say that the majority of students are unaware that he will be leaving the MC community as of December 31.

Ken, who recently announced his resignation, will be taking the position of director of intercultural life at Cornell College in Iowa as of January 3, 2006 and he also plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Higher Education.

“I’m endeavoring to go into Diversity Consulting and Training. I have lofty ambitions, but I liken it to a saying, ‘Shot for the moon so you’ll always be amongst the stars.’ It may sound cliché but it’s worked for me so far,” he stated.

Ken is said to be resigning from his position because he has accomplished all the goals he had previously set for himself.

“I’m ready for a new challenge and I have an opportunity to channel my energy into effective change and transformation,” he added.

Upon leaving MC to further advance his career, Ken said, “I will miss the relationships and connections I’ve made with students, past and present, all the clubs and organizations I've advised, the Residence Life Staff and last, but not least, my time as the Alternative Spring Break advisor.”

“During my time at Monmouth College, as a student and professional staff, I have gained a deep appreciation for how communities influence the academic and social development of individuals. I believe the skills that I have developed while at Monmouth College have prepared me well for this position.”

Before leaving, Ken would like to say this to the MC community, “Thank you for letting me be a part of your MC experience. I wish you all well in your endeavors and I hope during my time here I said or did something that made a difference.”

Ken, as a student and a leader on campus, I can say that you will be missed as an integral part of the MC community.        Good luck in all of your endeavors and do not hesitate to visit us and check up on your alma mater.
