Monmouth Basketball Jumps Into Conference This Weekend
The men’s and women’s basketball teams take on Ripon and Beloit this Friday and Saturday for their first conference games of the season. The women have a record of 1-2 right now, but the two loses were within the final minutes of the game and by close margins.The women start off the weekend first on Friday, Dec. 2 at 5pm against the defending conference champs, Ripon. The Redhawks lost many key players to graduation, including the Player of the Year Janine Emmer. The women will look to put a stop to Ripons 6-2 center Karlyn Dehn and hope to prove to the rest of the conference, they are in fact a new and improved team with a victory of the defending conference champions.The men started off the season going 3-1 with their only loss to a tough Central Missouri State team. The men follow at 7pm against a Ripon team that finished in the top four in the conferece, but also lost a key player in Tommy Becker. The women then take on a tough Beloit team at 2pm on Dec. 3. Beloit has proven so far that they will be a force to be reckoned with, and look to make a jump into the top four of the conference. Beloit also has a record of 1-2, but will play Grinnell the night before they play the Scots. The Bucs also welcome back Midwest Conference Performer, senior Michelle Westercamp. The men follow the women at 4pm against a Beloit team that is 2-1, losing to Augustana College. The men will look to stop senior gaurd, Danny Towns, who is putting up 17.3 points a game.
