The Lady Scots soccer team has started out their season 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest conference. Last Saturday the Lady Scots brought home a victory over Illinois College (5-2). Goals were scored by Amy Horneck (2), Lauren Lafond, Kristin Mertel, and Kathleen Heinrich. Also, this past Wednesday the team beat MacMurray College 8-0 with goals scored by Abby Horneck(1), Kisner(2), Stoffel(1), Kensiger(2), and Lafond(2). Starting the '05 season, many of the team's freshmen have been put on the disabled list. Fortunately, slack has been taken up by veteran players/captains on the squad Abby and Amy Horneck and Audrey Stoffel. As for the freshmen, promising players for the Scots are goalkeeper Kelly Gladkin and midfielder Sarah Kisner. Led by head coach Barry McNamara and assistant Dick Johnston, the team is looking to regain ground that has been lost in previous years. When asked what the team plans to do differently Head Coach Barry McNamara stated, “We were good in spurts last year, what we want to do this year is play the full 90 minutes.” Also, realizing that some of the most competitive teams in the Midwest Conference have lost much of their talent to graduating seniors, the postseason is certainly attainable this year. Come see the Lady Scots play Hannibal-LaGrange College Sept. 20th, 4 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Park .
