Men Look to Improve on Last Season’s Losing Record

Running hard, kicking balls, and scoring goals are all what Monmouth College men's soccer team is doing and will continue to do throughout the rest of the season.
The Scots, who are coached by Rue Carthew, are said to be and do real well this soccer season. The team is off to a 2-2 record this year. The opening match took place on Thursday, September 1 away at Mac Murray College in Jacksonville , Illinois . The Scots pulled off a 2-1 win verse their tough opponents. The next Scot's game is away on Saturday, September 17th versus Central College in Pella , Iowa at 4:30 pm.
“Not only do we have the potential and players to win, we have the attitude!” said Coach Rue Carthew.
Coach Rue Carthew is from Manchester , England . He has coached men's soccer at Monmouth College for 15 seasons and he's still in his prime. He moved to the United States in 1983 and immediately started his successful coaching career Also, during the 2001 season; Coach Carthew was chosen as MWC Coach of the Year. He has brought Monmouth to four 10-consecutive campaigns and in 1996 he brought the soccer team to victory for the MWC Southern Division Title.
Coach Carthew has expanded Monmouth soccer and is guiding them in the right direction. He has also brought the team to many tournaments and in 2001 coming up victorious in the Tourney Championship. This success has given the Monmouth College soccer team a spot in the National Tournament.
Recently the Scots had an astonishing victory against Mount Mercy College on Sunday, September 11th. The Monmouth soccer team pounded their opponents with a big score of 5-1. Two of the five goals were scored by player of the week, Andrew Prewett. Andrew was rewarded the Midwest Conference Performer of the week for his amazing “a-game” that he had brought to the game versus Illinois College .
Meanwhile, the Scots had a home game against Mt Mercy College on Tuesday, October 11. The men played a solid game dfeating Mt. Mercey 5-1. Saturday, Sept 17, the men travel to Pella , IA to take on Central College .
