“Ahoy Maties: Land Mon-mouth College ,” is this year's Family Weekend theme, which will be held this weekend, Sept. 23-25.
This year's events were put together by the Association for Student Activity Programming (ASAP) members; Stephanie Kennedy, assistant director of campus events; and the two head chairs of the committee, sophomores Joanna Martorelli and Sara Mendez.
Kennedy said, “The purpose of Family Weekend is to provide an organized event where parents can hangout with their college students and see what they do. The parents can see how their rooms are set up and meet their child's friends.”
Kennedy continued, “We encourage every student to go to the events even if your parents are unable to attend this weekend. This is for everyone.”
According to Mendez, “The best part of Family Weekend is to see everyone enjoy all the work you put together.”
Events will begin on Friday when parents can attend classes with their children from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Later that evening at 8 p.m., hypnotist, Justin Kredilbe, will perform in the Kasch Performance Hall of the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
Saturday's events will be held outside on the quad from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be inflatable games, a tattoo artist and a Big Kahuna Slide to accommodate visitors of all ages.
Also on Saturday there will be a picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where families can enjoy each others' company and get to know other students. According to Kennedy, “The picnic is to have over 1,000 people attending.”
Following the picnic meal, parents and students are invited to attend the currently undefeated Fighting Scots' football game against Beloit College starting at 1:30 p.m.
Entertainment for the halftime show will include the MC marching band, the dance team and the cheerleaders.
Other events on Saturday include the women's tennis match against Illinois College at 10 a.m. at the Tennis Stadium.
The women's soccer team will play twice this weekend at Peacock Park , once on Sat-urday when it will host the first-ever alumni game at 10 a.m. and again on Sunday when the Lady Scots will go against Benedictine Uni-versity at 1 p.m.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, parents and students are welcome to attend the MC Jazz Band concert and the MC Choir concert in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
The second half of the concert will feature the Men's Chamber Choir, Women's Chamber Choir and Concert Choir, all led by the new director, Sarah Graham.
After the concert, Robert Channing, a mentalist, will entertain the audience from 8:30 to 10 p.m with his E.S.P. abilities and let the audience participate.
