The MC women's soccer team lost to Culver-Stockton College in a double overtime game.
The ladies fell to Culver-Stockton 3-2 in a heartbreaking loss. In the game goals were scored by senior, Audrey Stoffel and sophomore, Ashley Kensinger.
A regular contributer on offense, Monmouth senior, scoring threat, Amy Horneck had the assist on the Kensinger goal.
Since last Wednesday, in their 8-0 victory against MacMurray College , the Lady Scots have gone 1-1, bringing home a loss against Grinnell (3-1) and a win over Hannibal-LaGrange College .
The team's loss against Grinnell last Saturday brought their record to 1-1 in the Midwest Conference. Horneck produced the Scots's only goal.
The Scots held their ground until about 80 minutes into the game when Grinnell scored their third and final goal to beat the Lady Scots.
Head Coach Barry McNamara thought that even though the team suffered a loss, they still played really well considering the caliber of Grinnell's team.
On a better note, Tuesday, the Lady Scots shut out the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange 3-0.
Amy Horneck, Sarah Kisner, and Ashley Kensinger scored goals. Kisner's header gave the Lady Scots a nice 1-0 cushion early in the game. Also, the team's solid defense was a key factor in sending Hannibal-Lagrange home empty handed.
After the game McNamara stated that, “This team now is starting to understand that we're pretty good and we can dictate that to other teams.” This win brought the team's overall season record to 3-2.
Compared to the beginning of last season the ladies have shown improvement both on the field and in their record. “To be over .500, this really is a good thing for us and we are really hoping that we do well the rest of this week,” stated McNamara.
As far as playoff hopesgo, the team's target is at least a 6-3 record in the Midwest Conference.
