Greeks wrap up recruitment

Formal Recruitment for Greek Life recently came to an end with the sororities having their Bid Day on Saturday, Sept. 10 and the fraternities’ Bid Day on Friday, Sept. 16.

Overall, Formal Recruitment for this year was a success due to the changes made in the Recruitment process.

Recruitment was pushed back one week for both sororities and fraternities, giving the incoming students a chance to really explore what Greek Life had to offer.     This year, the number of perspective students going through Formal Recruitment was lower than previous years, but something that offset these numbers was the increase in G.P.A among those going through Recruitment.

The Greek Community on MC’s campus prides itself on  academics, and it was great to see the perspective students realizing that as well.

There was an increase in the number of upper classmen who went through Recruitment this year.

This goes to show that it is never too late to join a Greek Organization on campus.

In addition, the fraternities will be recruiting throughout the year. If any males are still interested in joining Greek Life, it is not too late; they are more than welcome to inquire about their fraternity of choice.     Congratulations to all the new members of MC’s sororities and fraternities!

Greeks make headlines

School officially started on Monday, Aug. 29 and since then, we, as a Greek Community, have been recognized on numerous occasions for our hard work and dedication.

Not only have our Greeks been getting recognized through our college, but also through the community at large.

In the past four weeks of being back on campus there have been at least five instances where Greeks from Monmouth College have been recognized for their accomplishments.

Some of the activities that the fraternities have held include the Zeta Beta Tau’s hosting an “Open Mic Night” for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, the Alpha Tau Omega’s helping to install new playground equipment for a local school, and the Sigma Phi Epsilons winning an outstanding chapter award.

As for the sororities, Alpha Xi Deltas held “Faculty Night Out” where the ladies watched professors’ children so they have a free night to themselves and Kappa Kappa Gamma will have journal buddies with ESL students for thieir national philanthropy “Reading Is Fundemental” (RIF).

This is looking to be a great year for the entire Greek Community of Monmouth College.

All of the chapters are excited about their newest members and are eager to continue the tradition of excellence that was started over 135 years ago on this very campus.
