There were openbacked, strapless and belted gowns aplenty on the red carpet at the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, on January 15, 2006.
Asymmetrical necklines and hemlines made for an interesting new look at the awards. Renee Zellweger wore a black gown with offset straps and a slit that went thigh-high. Rachel Weisz was simply stunning in her bronze one-shoulder creation. Laura Linney, Rosario Dawson and Anne Hathaway were a few others seen in asymmetrical gowns.
Cocktail-length dresses looked refreshingly feminine and flirty on a multitude of women. Reese Witherspoon wore a bronze and ivory vintage Chanel number, while Anne Hathaway went the classic route in a navy Marc Jacobs dress. Charlize Theron wore Christian D’ior.
Red was the fitting color to be seen in as Eva Longoria wore a form-fitting ruched Bob Mackie masterpiece.
Backless dresses are back in style. It all started with Hilary Swank in her backless stunner at the Oscars last year, and now the dresses were being seen on Teri Hatcher, in particular, who wore a bronze fishtail halter dress, as did Jessica Alba in her Versace curve hugger.
As for hair, the “updo” was the hairstyle of choice, but this time there was some interest added by a select few who incorporated headbands into their look. Sarah Jessica Parker wore multiple bands with her elegant hairstyle, while Anne Hathaway sported a single band.
According to VH-1, a few of the best-dressed stars include Eva Langoria, Reese Witherspoon, and Teri Hatcher. However, fashion insiders crowned Geena Davis and Gwyneth Paltrow with the dishonoroable rating of “A” on the worst-dressed list.
