Academics take priority

Across the country, Greek Life is looked at as purely a social gathering of men and women that hide behind three large Greek letters. With stories of young men and women dying from alcohol related deaths, it is hard to think otherwise. But here at Monmouth College, Greeks have taken it upon themselves to put a stop to that stereotype by focusing more on the academic achievement of its members versus the social outlooks of Greek Life.
In the spring of 2005, the Greek Community grade point average beat the all campus average; an achievement that had fallen by the wayside for some time. Now for the second consecutive semester, the Greek Community as a whole has done it again: they have beaten the all campus average by achieving a 2.973 GPA compared to the all-campus average of a 2.849 GPA. When broken down, the Fraternity men had a 2.827 GPA and the Sorority women had a 3.064 GPA compared to the non-Greek male’s 2.642 GPA and the non-Greek women’s 3.043 GPA. Congratulations to all Greek chapters for the hard work and dedication in 2005!
