Track Hosts Annual Monmouth Invitiational

The Fighting Scots track team looks to host its’ annual indoor invitational. The men look to follow behind junior standout Tyler Rundle, who is already predicted to make it to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Rundle is already a threat for All American honors in the 400 meter dash. Rundle also won the 200 and 400 and was part of three winning relays at last year’s Midwest Conference Championships. On the women’s side, Christina Reiner looks to pick up from last year in the pole vault. She already holds the school record set at 10’10 and has much improved Megan McKenna right on her heels. If Reiner clears 11’6, she will be an All American contender. The Midwest Conference saw four chamopions last year in the field events: Tim Frank in the high jump, Jeff Reholz in the weight throw and shot put, Alex Stuart in the triple jump, and Reiner in the pole vault, long jump, and high jump. The distance will look to continue its strong showing from cross country season without National Champion Zach Barr, who is still out with an injury. They are led by Anthony Welty and Kel Bond. The women welcome back a healthy Sarah Ingersoll, who was out most of last year with a stress fracture, to the distance along with Erin Mann, Abby Horneck, who is coming off a stellar soccer season, and Joni Nelson. The track teams have already competed in a meet at Knox College last week, Jan. 21. The track teams welcome in many newcomers that look to keep the tradition alive in Scots’ track and field. The Scots ran over the field as the men won four relays. The women faired well too, as they took first and second in many of the individual races and relays. Freshman newcomer Ashley Widdop started her career right with two victories in the 55, 200, and a second in the 55 hurdles. The Scots will again have their place in the nation as they start off another strong track season.Monmouth w ill host teams from around the state this Saturday, Jan. 26.
