Now Playing:
“When a Stranger Calls” - This remake of the 1979 cult slasher hit about a terrorized babysitter is hoping to frighten moviegoers into theaters this weekend.Ho-hum. Seen it before. Know what would really be frightening? A film about telemarketers...
“Something New” - This new romantic comedy starring Sanaa Lathan has the possibility of being this winter’s sleeper hit, especially with Valentine’s Day coming up soon and all.
“The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada” - Tommy Lee Jones directs and stars in this thriller for which he received an award for Best Actor at Cannes. It’s nice to see Jones on the big screen again, but I hope this is a better film than “Man of the House.”
“Good Night, and Good Luck” - After its Oscar nods this week, Warner is re-releasing George Clooney’s film about journalist Edward R. Murrow’s crusade against McCarthyism. This is one of the best films of last year, but it will be on DVD in a month. Either way, this is a must-see.
On DVD:
“Corpse Bride” - Tim Burton’s most recent foray into stop-motion adaptation is now on DVD for families with a taste for the macabre to enjoy.
“In Her Shoes” - Cameron Diaz, Shirley MacLaine, and Toni Collette star in Curtis Hanson’s uber-chick flick.
“Dune: Extended Edition” - The 1984 David Lynch megabomb adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic is now back on DVD in a two-disc set featuring an extended cut. Regardless of how long the film is, it still sucks.
“Lust for Life” - Vincente Minelli’s 1956 biopic of Vincent Van Gogh features Kirk Douglas in one of his best performances. Forget “Reservoir Dogs,” the ear-cutting scene in this film is still hard to stomach.
