The Monmouth College women's basketball team began the weekend with a very impressing win over Beloit College (83-55) but then turned around the next day with a loss to Ripon College(75-58).
Within the first two minutes of the game against Beloit, MC jumped to a 6-0 lead and never turned back.
Leading the Scot's in scoring with 14 points apiece were, Melissa Gorski, Ashley Yeast, and Lisa Curry.
As Coach Jones called it a "fundamentally sound game," the Scots out-rebounded the Buccaneers 46 to 38. As well as had fewer turnovers with 13, while Beloit handed that ball over 17 times during the contest.
Freshman Melisssa Gorski stated, "We shot the ball very well as a team, which we had been working on shooting drills during the week in practice."
The Scots in fact shot very well for the game hitting 51.5% of their field goals, 76.5% from the charity stripe, and an astonishing 66.7% behind the arc.
Coach Jones was very pleased with the way her girls' were shooting the ball during the game.
Overall it was a very good game to raise the confidence in the Fighting Scots.
Traveling to Ripon the next day for another contest with the Ripon Redhawks, the women knew they would have to step their game up if they wanted to come away from the weekend with a couple of wins.
Ripon is currently third in Midwest Conference standings as MC is sixth. With one already in the bag, Freshman Tiffany Muehe said, "We felt confident going into the second game after winning pretty big last night."
This game however did not go so well as the night before. The score of this game was similar to that of the game the night before except that MC was on the losing side this time.
Leading the Scots in scoring once again with 14 points apiece were Melissa Gorski and Lisa Curry.
The game began with a lay-up from Lisa Curry giving the Scots the early lead, but then Ripons tenacity took over and ran away from the Scots.
However the women went on surges here and there in the first half they found themselves only behind by five going into the locker room for halftime. The loss could be contributed to the Fighting Scots shooting percentage this game.
Coach Jones stated, "Overall we just couldn't get the ball in the hoop." The Scots only shot 34.7% from the field and an even worse 25% from behind the three-point line.
The Scots will play again at home against Lake Forest College on Saturday Feb. 11th at 2:00 PM.
