Texas Hold ’em has been the latest craze in card games over the past few years.
Unfortunately, it may not be the game for Monmouth College; Liedman Hall might have held their hopes too high on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when they organized a poker night for MC students.
The Texas Hold ’em tournament was held in the Highlander Room of the Stockdale Center from 7 to 9 p.m.
“I wish a lot more people would have come,” stated Heidi Hartshorn, member of Liedman Hall Council.
With all of the advertising, the Liedman ladies thought for sure they would get a good turn out; however only about 15 people came to play.
Some students who attended were not familiar with poker, so instead they made their own table of random card games.
Participation prizes were given away to Chadd Kaiser, Pamela Steskal, Jennifer Pullum and Crystal Bradly.
Receiving fourth place and a $10 gift card to Shopko was Kathleen Woolley.
Third place was awarded to Matt Hammer with a gift card towards iTunes.
A $10 gift card from County Market was awarded to John Serra.
Finally, first place was awarded to Matt Faron, who received the grand prize, which consisted of a basket filled with candy and a $10 gift certificate from Dairy Queen.
“Most of my winnings will go to my girlfriend,” replied Faron.
“It was a good time,” said Serra.
The students in attendance seemed to enjoy the night of playing cards, eating snacks and listening to good music.
“It felt like I was at home playing with some of my friends,” said Faron.
Liedman Hall Council is currently brainstorming for new ideas for MC students to enjoy.
Look for flyers in the near future for a possible Easter egg hunt and a barbeque once spring arrives.
