What do you want to be when you grow up?
This is a question that so many college students are asked on a regular basis and many regularly respond, “Well I really don’t know!”
Well if you are one of those students at Monmouth College, or just interested in seeing where your major can take you, step up to the plate and take advantage of this opportunity.
On Thursday, Mar. 23, a Major and Minors Fair will be held in lower level Stockdale Center for all MC students to attend.
Coordinated by Marjorie Bond, associate professor of mathematics, and Benita Dilley, associate professor of communication and theater arts, and independent study students Carissa Scott, Jill Springsteen, Heather Prater, and Jessica Livermore, the fair will host all departments on campus, the Registrar and the Wackerle Career Center.
The baseball-themed event will give students an opportunity to explore departments and career opportunities they may have never considered.
Students will be encouraged to walk around to different tables and ask questions to the student and faculty representatives from each department.
At each station, there will be information including the major, career opportunities, and a 4-year plan showing students how to complete the major while at MC.
In addition, a special booth will be set up for students interested in pursuing a topical major or off-campus study.
There will also be an emphasis on the new general education program if students, especially freshman and sophomores, are interested or have questions.
Susan Dagit, registrar and director of corporate and foundation grants, will also be representing the Registrar that evening.
If students come to the fair and are so inclined to choose a major, Dagit will be there for students to turn in their declaration of major forms on the spot.
“It will be a great opportunity for students to declare a major and then turn it into the Registrar; it will be like a one stop shop!” Dr. Bond commented.
The fair promises to be an exciting event for all who attend and a great opportunity to explore a new area or career field.
Dr. Bond reminds students to keep an open mind when trying to decide on a major.
“This is a great opportunity for students who are undecided and still exploring a major. Come to the fair, look around and fill out a form at the end of the night that says you’re still undecided!”
This is a “no-pressure” event and a great “hands on” experience for those who are excited and ready to find out what they really want to become.
