The Monmouth College Track team traveled to Cedar Falls, Iowa to participate in the UNI Dome Invitational on Friday Feb. 17. The event took place at the University of Northern Iowa. This event was an individual competition and team scores were not given out.

MC had two top performers and both had a record setting Friday afternoon. Senior Albert Greene wowed the fans in the triple jump competition as he finished a close second with a record setting jump.

Greene bounded 46'3-1/4 feet breaking a record he had established just a week earlier.

Kel Bond, a junior, had a successful day at the track as he finished second in the 800 meter race. Bond also established a school record with his time of 1:53.80.

For the second week in a row, junior Alex Stuart finished one spot behind Greene and as a result the pair finished second and third.

Other notable competitors at the UNI Invitational for the men were senior Anthony Welty, sophomore Zach Wilson, juniors Jeff Rebholz, Tim Frank, and Tyler Rundle.

Welty had two top five finishes this weekend. He finished fifth in the mile run and then an impressive third in 3000 meter race. Welty has done an impressive and commendable job leading the men's distance team after the loss of senior Zach Bar.

Wilson had a solid day in the field events finishing sixth in the weight throw and third in the shot put. Wilson fell one spot behind teammate Rebholz in the weight throw, Rebholz finished fifth in the event.

Then in the shot put, Wilson got back at Rebholz beating him out by one spot as the two finished next to each other again. Wilson finished third and Rebholz a solid fourth.

Tyler Rundle looked very good in the 400 meter run as he finished second. Rundle has preformed well all year for the Scots. Frank finished third in the high jump for the Scots.

In all, the MC men's track team had a successful day at the UNI Dome Invitational. The men brought home 22 top-10 finishes, which only strengthens their resume as they come down the stretch run of their indoor season.

On the women's side, senior Amy Horneck had a big day for the Lady Scots. She brought home the lone MC first place finish as she won the women's triple jump competition with a jump of 34'4 feet even. Horneck also finished eighth in the long jump event.

Senior Christina Reiner, juniors Andrea Emery, Sara Ingersoll, sophomores Megan McKenna, Megan Clennon, freshmen Ashley Widdop and Shannon Turczyn all had top-10 finishes. Reiner and McKenna each had three such finishes.

Reiner finished tied for second in the long jump, tied for eighth in the high jump, and grabbed sole possession of second in the pole vault event.

McKenna also looked solid in the field events. She tied with Reiner in the long jump; she then finished behind the senior in the pole vault finishing third. McKenna also finished fourth in the triple jump.

Emery received sixth place for her efforts in the high jump and Ingersoll captured ninth place in the mile run. Clennon tied with Reiner in the high jump event as the two were two spots behind Emery.

Widdop brought home an eighth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles and fellow freshman Shannon Turczyn captured a tie for tenth in the 200 meter run.

The ladies first team in the 4x400 meter relay brought in a ninth place finish for their fine efforts. In all, the Fighting Scots women's track team left the UNI Dome Invitational with 14 top-10 placements.

Saturday Feb. 25 will be the Fighting Scots last meet before coming home to the Midwest Conference Championships. On Saturday, MC will send off their track team to Whitewater, WI to compete in the Schlender Invitational at UW-Whitewater.

Then while the rest of the Monmouth College student body is off enjoying their spring breaks, the track team will defend their 2005 Conference Championships in the Midwest Conference Indoor Meet.
