Liberal Arts anyone?

It has been speculated that Monmouth College is losing its “liberal arts” title due to the fact that many students are not graduating with a degree in a liberal arts field. However, according to President Mauri Ditzler, “No, this is not true.”

The liberal arts term is not only very interesting, noted Ditzler, but also of highly debatable meaning.

When defining the criteria for an institution to be considered “liberal arts” the majority of graduating seniors must earn degrees in the various fields associated with liberal arts, such as philosophy, history, biology, rhetoric, etc, he stated. Read More...

Give blood, save lives

In the basement of the Stockdale Center on Thursday, April 7, the American Red Cross and Monmouth College Greek Life will be co-sponsoring the annual Greek Week blood drive.

Blood is always in high demand, especially following a holiday season. Spring is a good time to donate blood, and the demand for blood never decreases. Blood is especially in high demand for rare blood types such as AB negative and B negative. AIDS Memorial Quilt founder visits MC

“AIDS is the most serious pandemic that the human species has ever known.” Those very words were uttered with discontent by Cleve Jones, founder of the famed AIDS Memorial Quilt, during his stirring and emotionally compelling address on March 29 in the Dahl Chapel & Auditorium.

The Quilt, intended to honor those whose lives have been lost to the HIV/AIDS virus, began as an individual tribute to a pair of influential figures in Jones’ life.  Read More...
