The Monmouth College men’s tennis team hit the road to Jacksonville, IL this past weekend to play Illinois College and St. Norbert. These were the team’s first matches of conference play. MC had a 7-0 team win verse IC and defeated St. Norbert 4-3.
Taking part in the sweep against IC was sophomore Brandon Stacey who won by forfeit, senior Jared Kunkle: 6-2,6-1, sophomore Kevin Kamenjarin:6-1,6-2, freshman Kyle Korb:6-2,6-2, sophomore Matt Moser:6-0,6-0, and junior Alex Carter:7-6,(7-3),6-0.

If one team victory did not seem enough, MC came ready to play another set of matches verse St. Norbert. Kamenjarin: 6-0/6-2, Korb, Moser: 6-1/6-2, and Carter: 6-2,6-0, all achieved singles victories, while Kamenjarin teamed again with Korb to capture the lone win of the doubles duels with a score of 8-5.
On Wednesday March 29, MC suffered their first loss in almost three weeks verse Augustana College. The sun began to shine as the MC players stepped onto their home courts, but the sun did not shine in their faces after the meet was over.
Moser won 6-0/6-4 in his singles matches. He was the only one to achieve victory. In doubles however, Kamenjarin and Korb again pulled away with a 8-6 victory and Moser and Carter succeeded with an 8-2 win.
The MC men’s tennis team will be at home this Saturday, April 1st at 9a.m. and noon playing Lawerence University and Loras College.
