For the guys: how to dress for success

It’s that time of the school year again, when the most important part of your appearance is vital. It is time for interviews, whether it is your first-time interview for an internship or you are getting ready for a job in the real world.

The first impression is said to be one of the most important parts of the interview and many women know what to wear, but what about you fellas? Do you know what to wear?

Here are some tips I can give you when “dressing for success” in 2006:

These days, three-button suits are out and two-button suits are in. It will give you a slimmer look, and it will better show off your shirt and tie.

Make sure your suit is not too big. If you weren’t assisted in picking out and trying on the suit, chances are it’s too big. Gentlemen, when it comes to dress-up attire, baggy is not “in.” The shoulders of the jacket should hug your shoulders, and make sure the sleeves stop at the center of your wrist. As for the pants, size them so they break once. You don’t want them baggy and dragging by your feet.

If you like sweaters, make sure you own at least one charcoal gray v-neck. It goes perfectly with a dark suit in fall or winter and with jeans or corduroys in spring.

A black belt is one that every man should own. It goes well with just about anything. If you are dressing up or if you are dressing semi-casual, it looks nice with a pair of khakis.

A dark, slim tie will give a younger, cooler feel and, unlike wider ties, it looks as good with a jean jacket as it does with a suit jacket.

Finally, it is best if you invest in a nice shoulder bag. If you carry a cheap one with a nice suit, it kills your outfit.
