After a rough start to the season, the Monmouth College tennis team looks to turn around the season during their current five-meet home-stand. The home-stand was led off by Knox College on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

The Scots dominated the Prairie Fire by a score of 7-2. The Scots won all but two of the singles competitions and won all three doubles competitions.

Sophomore Cassandra Frantz’s flawless play in the meet highlighted the Scots’ afternoon. Frantz won her singles match 6-1 and 6-1. Frantz then teamed up with fellow sophomore Brittany Donnelly to win their doubles match 8-5. Donnelly won her singles match 6-1, 6-3. The win was the Scots’ first of the season.

The Scots dropped a pair to St. Norbert and Beloit on Sunday, Sept. 17, in Beloit, Wis. The Scots fell 7-2 to St. Norbert. Host Beloit then tossed a shutout at the Scots, defeating Monmouth 9-0.

In their first conference meet of the season on Saturday, Sept. 16, the Scots were defeated 8-1 by Grinnell College. It was also the Scots first home tennis meet of the year.

The Scots have added a new head coach this season, Kerry Frantz. Frantz’s daughter has help lead a young women’s tennis team thus far in the season. Despite the team’s 1-3 record thus far in the season, there has been marked improvement match to match.

The Scots will remain home for the rest of the regular season, until the Midwest Conference Tournament.

The Scots’ next match will take place again at Monmouth College on Friday, Sept. 22, against St. Ambrose University. On Thursday, Oct. 5, the Scots will greet Illinois College to the MC hard courts.
