Scots embarrass Knox 8-0

The women’s soccer team took it to Knox College on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and won the Midwest Conference event. The Scots scored eight goals, allowing none. Junior Lauren Lafond scored two goals in the first half alone. Senior Kristin Mertel and freshman Christa Davidson each scored their fifth goal of the season. Mertel and Davidson are tied for the team lead for goals (5). Freshman Amanda Neira, who was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week in women’s soccer, also scored a goal and had an assist. The Scots used three different keepers in the contest. Junior Vanessa Kentfield started in the net for the Scots. She was followed by senior Kirsten Brady; then freshman Kayla Trammell entered the fray.

In their Saturday, Sept. 23, game against Grinnell, the team lost in a tough one. Despite the efforts of senior Audrey Bellefeuille, (above with ball) the Scots fell 0-1. Kentfield had 10 saves in the game, but the lone goal that got by ended up being the deciding goal. The Scots were only able to get eight shots on goal in the game.
